Music.

Before I began designing space, music taught me how to shape time. It showed me how rhythm can organize movement, how distinct voices can coexist, and how silence can carry as much meaning as sound. Across performance, composition, and community work, music has become more than something I practice—it is a way for me to interpret, create, and connect.

PIANIST

From Solo Interpretation to Collaborative Performance

Piano has been a constant in my life for twelve years. Through daily practice, diploma recitals, competitions, concerts, and ensemble performance, I have learned that musicianship requires both an individual voice and the ability to listen closely to others.

Whether interpreting a solo work or performing Keyboard I in a Keystone Academy’s Musical Pit Orchestra, I approach the piano as a space where discipline, expression, and collaboration meet.

Keyboard I in Dreamland

As Keyboard I in Dreamland, I performed within a 13-member pit orchestra, carrying principal melodies, accompanying soloists and ensembles, and coordinating musical cues with dialogue and prop changes across 24 numbers.

Across four performances for more than 1,000 spectators, I played 33 pieces and learned to listen beyond my own part, respond to the conductor in real time, and understand how music supports movement, atmosphere, and narrative.

COMPOSER

From Interpretation to an Original Voice

Performance taught me how to interpret an existing musical language; composition asked me to create one of my own.

In my original works, I experiment with how rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, texture, and form can communicate different kinds of identity—from the collective energy of a school community to the quieter process of developing confidence in oneself.

MUSIC BEYOND THE STAGE

Extending Music Beyond the Stage

KeyMelody

Music has shaped much of my own education, but access to instruments and musical learning is not equally shared.

Through KeyMelody, I led a five-student team in bringing together live performance, multimedia storytelling, and instrument donation. We introduced Beethoven and jazz through four events for more than 60 attendees, while collecting over 20 unused instruments for a Beijing public school and expanding access to music education for more than 100 students.

A performance may last only a few minutes, but when music is shared—through a story, a lesson, or an instrument placed in someone else’s hands—it can become the beginning of something much longer.
